Main Party
Kit's shield-poking of the root doesn't prompt any hazardous outcomes, despite its malevolent tentacle-like appearance.
Sarah inspects the panel, but finds nothing else of interest; either about the purpose of the panel or the exact content or whereabouts of the things which fit into the slots.
William heads off down the other branch, discovering that the other path joins up with the path south of 4. Since the rest of the party seemed reluctant to travel that way before
James creates a rough sketch of the image; his knocking suggests that there may be some kind of cavity behind the panel, although the echoing of the cavity suggests it's not a very big one.
New Party
[Yes, Detect Traps and Danger Sense are passive constant skills.]
Meanwhile Ferron and Reginald introduce themselves to each other.
Kit heads off ahead, going down one of the pathways as William is.
ReplyDeleteWilliam holds his hand up as Kit approached. "Hold one sec." He then pops his head back down the hallway. "it looks like the rest of these hallways are interconnected. Unless you guys think you can crack that puzzle right now, I believe its time to deal with thoes weres"
ReplyDeleteMephis tweets sadly and flaps his wings a few times. (Not that I can really do much. XD)
ReplyDelete[ooc: Repost from the last entry for Sept. My wits eluded me and so I posted my Oct. entry in the wrong month lol. Also, if my posts are too long, or annoying someone, let me know and I can shorten them. If not, I'll just stick to the ridiculous amount of story telling lol]
ReplyDeleteReginald takes some meat from the spit, careful not to burn his hands, and fumbles a bit with it while blowing away some of the heat. Taking a bite, he stops mid chew and looks back at Ferron, "You know that this is Centaur meat, right? Not just horse?" Finishing his mouthful, he focuses on Ferron and becomes a little bit more serious.
"I'm here by chance, you could say. You see I was actually going to be passing through these parts, happily on my way to some conference thing I was invited to to speak about something or other... it's all very boring and formal, so I tend to forget the details. Anyway, my cab driver has to stop because there's something in the road, so we get out to check what it is."
Reginald pauses to lean in closer and smile, as if to place emphasis on his next words. His tone lowers slightly, intimating to Ferron alone despite no one else being around to hear, "Maybe you saw it over there," he indicates away from the cave, "but if you didn't, there happens to be a the glided remains of a were-boar!" His tone indicated mixed confusion and excitement.
"Well I figure if you have a half man half boar lying around, someone put it there. Dead. Curiously covered in gold, at that!" Reginald leaned back, arching his back to get more comfortable, "Well the idea is so far fetched, that if it were real it would be the beginning of an adventure in investigating strange happenings, don't you think?" He would have waited for a response, but the story demanded a conclusion. It was a rhetorical question anyway.
"The long and short of it is, I'm not one to pass up a good adventure. That and my cabby raced off before I could collect more than by backpack and my staff," He said picking it up at his side and examining the length of it, "Sure I suppose I should be scared, entering a dungeon-like cavern with nothing but a backpack full of supplies, harboring unknown danger and mystery, but then again..." he put his staff down and returned his focus to The fire-lit man across him, "but then again if it has people in it carving up centaur meat and offering hospitality, it can't be all bad, right?"
A devil-may-care grin creeps ear to ear as Reginald suppresses a small laugh and adds: "What's your story, then, 'Mr. Hangs-out-in-dungeons-carving-centaur-meat Warrior Man'?"
Upon hearing William say the paths are connected, James feels a little adventurous. He give the wall a kick in case he can kick through it. He calls over at William "Unless you think our stuff can make it open or something, we're probably going to have to look for the things to make it work."
ReplyDeleteHe then proceeds to walk through the second path, looking for anything interesting as he walks. He'll stop at the intersection directly below 4, staying in sight of William and Kit
"I figure that much" William says to James "The solution will require some sort of unique item, or items found within this maze. Still that is for later, I wanted to make sure the party is together before we deal with these vermin." He then steps in front of James, before continuing "Unless you have some sort of silvered weapon, Id advise staying behind me."
ReplyDeleteFerron takes a minute to gather his thoughts before answering. He packs up the now cooked strips of "centaur jerky", and places them in hsi pack.
ReplyDelete"The reason I'm here, I suppose you could say is that...I'm running. Both from my past...and my future." He pauses slightly, considering his words.
"I suppose I should explain that a little..."
Another pause.
"I'm...hiding, I guess you could say...from the consequences of a decision I made a long time ago. One thing led to another...and the reprecussions grew as the time passed. The apparent deceit in my actions grew in people's minds over time, I guess. So much for time healing all wounds."
He pauses again, this time fiddling with an engraved ring on his left ring finger, spinning it around several times with his other hand.
"Who knew that innocent actions would cost so very much." He finishes quietly, echoes of pain visible in his eyes. He gets to his feet, turning his back to Reginald, and begins packing the remains of his supplies.
Still with his back to Reginald, he continues,
"The reason I'm here, now is ... I'm trying to come to terms with the choice I know have to make soon. I'm trying to prevent...what happened before...from happening again. Nothing is worth that cost."
He pauses slightly, a glimmer of pain apparent in his voice,"This dungeon complex is essentially isolated from the world. It is a good place to think and to hide, and maybe I could do some good here. No one is likely to find me here."
Now facing Reginald he smiles, "You might be wondering why I'm trusting you but in reality I have nothing more to lose. No offense.
It is unlikely that the people looking for me are anywhere around here, and even in ...another form... one would be able to feel the difference.
You have nothing to fear from me, I could even be of some assitance if you are still considering going in...
"Let me know what you decide, for we shouldn't remain outside much longer. We're sitting ducks out here, if anything should happen upon us."
Ferron turns around and continues packing up his things.
As an afterthought, Ferron turns around and adds grinning,
ReplyDelete"And yes, I do know that that's centaur meat. Good isn't it?"
Reginald listened as Ferron recounted the rather abstract account of his "reasons for being at the dungeon," his affable smile fading slowly to make room for solemn interest. The weight of the obscurity with which Ferron was describing his past, mixed with the obvious betrayal of emotion in his tone, told him that this was an issue best left accepted and pursued only at the behest of the situational candidate, himself.
ReplyDeleteAt the suggestion that he should take no offense Reginald merely smiled politely and lightly shrugged. The ease with which Ferron divulged even the amount that he did came as a bit of a surprise to Reginald, as few are either so open or so at a loss to object. For that, Reginald secretly pledged to aid this man with what he could.
Ferron's suggestion that they head back in to the dungeon roused brief disgust as Reginald remembered the stench of the airing meat, but he was headed in there anyway, so the acceptance of companionship demonstrated by his new friend was welcome.
Reginald stands up from his place of rest and dusts himself off, checking to make sure he isn't leaving anything behind. He flicks the LED flashlight he had pulled from the open cab glove compartment earlier. All is accounted for. Ferron turns to him as he is packing his things and adds a short quip about the centaur meat, generating a laugh from Reginald.
"Hey, I liked it. First time for everything, right? Though, on the note of duck, I think I would prefer the fowl over the foul smell of this delicacy," Reginald chuckles softly at the wordplay and continues, "And I should think that a great deal more danger await in a dungeon than a field, but there are two things to say about that," he holds up his fingers as if to illustrate the point, "I will never be prove right or wrong on the aspect of danger if we don't go in, and fields contain little adventure when compared to dungeons!"
Reginald knows that Ferron is likely aware of this, but finds that amusement is more readily to be had when such things are vocalized and takes this opportunity to chuckle softly again before forcing himself to be more serious and alert for the coming adventure. Slowly regaining composure, standing firm, as ready as he'll ever be, Reginald sets of into the dungeon. Well, he sets off this time covering his face with his shirt to help mask the smell. Thaaaaat's Better, he thought to himself, looking back to make sure Ferron is ready as well.
"I'm guessing my Silver ring doesn't count?" he smiles and steps back behind William.
ReplyDelete"Oh, and I really appreciate you not letting me die and all by the way! Always appreciated" He pats Will on the back, referring to any encounter they have where James basically tries not to get killed.
