Umm, Are People Having Fun?

I really hate to do this.

I'm wondering whether continuing TFDC is actually worthwhile, given the number of different responders to the few latest updates.

If there's something here that's stopping you from having fun, then please let me know and I'll try to come up with something. I've taken a lot of suggestions and implemented them, and have at least considered the rest. Feel free to IM me or PM me with your suggestions. I've sunk a fair amount of time into preparing this game, and I'd rather change stuff than have to scrap it completely.

If you aren't able to play (either temporarily or permanently), or no longer want to play, then just please let me know so that I'm not waiting for replies and wasting my time any more.

It's only really worthwhile me running this game if there's 4 or more people actively playing it; otherwise, I could work on smaller groups in some other, more private, arrangement (probably on some other project). And I really don't want to have to chase up people after every update; it's just more time away from actually doing stuff for the game or something else.

I'm going to message everyone involved, and I'll decide what to do when - or perhaps it's better to say if? - I hear back from you.

  2. I'm lovin' it so far. Frankly IMO, I wouldn't mind a live session at a specific date to quickly speed things up. However, I think that it'd be really REALLY hard on your part. And I'm still posting. It's just that the button for the bookmark isn't on my toolbar. (Lots of junk up there)

  4. I've already posted "standing orders" for Gauronne. When those standing orders strike me as being an adequate response to whatever is going on, I don't really see any need for me to post a reply just for the sake of posting a reply.

I get the feeling that you're trying to run this pretty much the same way as you'd run a face-to-face RPG, Automata. But face-to-face games run in realtime -- when a face-to-face GM says somewthing, he can and will get immediate responses from everybody. What you're doing here is more like play-by-mail, or at least play-by-email; there is no way of knowing how long it will take for any given player to notice (let alone reply to!) any given post of yours. In a face-to-face game, it makes perfect sense for the GM to ask his players "Okay, now what?" at every conceivable moment, because there isn't any sort of time penalty involved; the players blurt out their actions right that very momwent, and the game does not slow down. In a play-by-email type of game, however, asking "Now what?" at every conceivable moment is a Bad Thing, because it will slow the game down immensely.
Similarly, between-character conversations work very well indeed in a face-to-face game, but nowhere near as nicely in a play-by-email game....
